8PM Eastern, Monday, 24 October - via Zoom

The Babylonian Talmud is filled with stories and legal discussions involving demons. In this class, we’ll look at how the Babylonian rabbis “think with” demons to create a map of the rabbinic world, using demons to organize space and space to organize the demonic world. We’ll explore the hows and whys of rabbinic/demonic space, and ask what is at stake in this project, both for the rabbis of the Talmud and for its modern readers.
